Inspired by the beauty of surfaces that have lived a life -sun-faded walls, chipped paint, salt air and the layers of history woven throughout Venice. These planters were created for the communal patio of an independent documentary production company in Venice.

The planters were designed specifically for Concordia Studio’s patio—a shared outdoor space where filmmakers, producers, and artists gather between projects to trade ideas and recharge. Because the patio sits beneath mature vines and an overhang, I chose hardy succulents that would thrive in partial sun rather than requiring full exposure.

After making each planter, I planted them by hand, using a mix of carefully selected varieties, including cuttings propagated from my own mother plants. The moss tucked into the orb planters was gathered from the side of my own house—a small detail that quietly ties a piece of my garden to theirs.

Like the ceramics themselves, the planting was never an afterthought. The goal was to create living pieces that would settle naturally into the space, becoming more beautiful as they grew.
