Frequently Asked Questions

  • Please allow 3–5 business days for orders to leave the studio.

I pack every order myself (lots of wrapping, not a lot of robots), and I take extra (ok, obsessive) care to make sure your order arrives safely. As soon as your order ships, you’ll receive tracking details by email.

Delivery timing after shipment depends on your location.

  • I pack ceramics with a borderline unreasonable amount of care (credit to being raised by a retired UPS driver), and every shipment is insured before it leaves the studio.

If your order arrives damaged, please email me within 48 hours of delivery and include:

    ● photos of the damaged piece(s)

    ● photos of all packaging materials

    ● a photo of the outside shipping box

Please keep all packaging until the claim process is complete.

Once I receive your photos, I’ll begin the shipping insurance process and follow up with next steps. Depending on availability, this may include creating a replacement piece or another resolution.

Because each piece is handmade and shipments are insured, I’m unable to offer refunds for damage that occurs during transit.

  • Yes. If a piece is intended for eating, drinking, serving, or generally living a delicious little life, it’s made with food-safe glazes.

I choose glazes intended for functional ceramics (including glazes free of intentionally added lead and cadmium) and apply and fire them according to manufacturer recommendations.

If a piece has special care instructions (gold luster, I’m looking at you), I’ll always note that separately.

  • All functional pieces are dishwasher safe. However just like your favorite sweater, gentle washing is recommended.

Personally, I like to handwash my favorites and use the dishwasher occasionally for a deep clean.

TIP: Never leave precious pots in the sink! This is where tragedy tends to strike as dishes get clunked around, randomly stacked, etc. If you have a very busy household the dishwasher is actually the safest place for them to go if you can’t wash right away.

  • I do occasionally accept custom projects and small production runs.

Because each piece is made in small batches, commissions are considered individually and are generally a better fit for larger orders (typically 10 pieces or more). If you have an idea, I’d love to hear about it—we can talk through timing, quantities, and whether it makes sense for both of us.

  • Each Born on Sunset piece is made entirely by hand, so subtle variations are expected and celebrated.

Sets are created to work together beautifully and function as intended, but no two pieces are ever exact copies. Differences in form, surface, and glaze are part of the story of handmade objects—and part of their charm.

  • Some Born on Sunset pieces feature genuine gold luster details—a final fired finish that contains real gold and gives each piece its warm metallic glow.

These pieces are food safe and made to be enjoyed, but because gold is a precious metal rather than a standard ceramic glaze, they do require a little extra care:

    • Not microwave safe (real gold and microwaves don’t get along)
• Hand washing is recommended to preserve the finish over time
• Avoid abrasive scrubbers or harsh cleaners
• Handle thoughtfully to help maintain the shine for years to come

A little care goes a long way—and the soft signs of use that develop over time are part of living with handmade objects.
